Swans are back again

Looks like same swans have returned again. River is still frozen and there are still lot of snow. There is anyway already two small areas free of ice and swans are there again. This place is only few meters from the place where swans have had a nest already many years.

Waxwing and Rowan Berries

In the last post I tested zoom in my new Canon PowerShot SX730 HS. This photo I took also using the same camera. Distance to bird was about three four meters.

Canon PowerShot SX730 HS Superzoom - Quick Zoom Test

I have had in my mind already long time that I want some kind of superzoom pocket camera. I have Canon EOS 60D DSLR and Canon PowerShot G15 in use, but superzoom camera would combine long zoom and small size. One week ago Finnish Verkkokauppa.com had special offer of Canon SX730 HS Travel Kit, which included also case for the camera and very small Joby Gorillapod Original tripod. The price for the package was 249.90€, which was 120€ under normal price and I had to buy one.

SX730 HS has normal 20.3 megapixel 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor, but the big thing is 40x optical zoom which is equivalent to 24-960mm in 35mm terms.

Here is my first zoom test, where is easy to see the zoom range. First the wide view.

Here in this second photo I zoomed to the fisherman on the right.

Zoom works well and the quality of the photos are good especially for the size of the camera. First impression of the camera is great.

I will post more photos soon, what I have taken using this SX730 HS.

Tornio Old Bridge in Winter

Tornio old bridge was built more than four years. Construction was started in 4th of February 1935 and the grand opening was 9th of July 1939. Official name of the bridge is Hannulan silta, but nowadays locals call it just Tornio old bridge, because there is also newer and bigger bridge next to this old bridge.

Austrian Motorcyclists On Winter Trip in Finland

There are few motorcyclists here in Finland, who ride also in winter. Today I saw two motorcyclists even weather was quite cold. Almost -20C and also some wind. Anyway these guys were not local. They were on winter trip from Austria!

iPiccy Online Editor - Shine on Tornio Bridge

I edited this Tornio old bridge photo using online editor called iPiccy. It has lot of different kind of effects and tools to edit photos.

Editing using iPiccy Online Editor: First I cropped the photo and used HDR effect. After that I added Shine effect, where is possible to set the center point, radius, intensity and also color of the rays. In this case I set the color to violet/purple.

End result after editing is quite interesting. What do you think?

Two Cities - Two Countries - One Photo

I took this photo next to our home in Tornio city center. On the front the buildings are in Tornio in Finland and in the middle there is Haparanda old water tower in Sweden.

Now Torne River is already totally frozen. This photo I took three weeks ago, when the middle part of the river was still open.

It's Winter Now - Snow, Snow, Snow

Few days ago here was no snow at all, but after the weekend it looks like we are middle of the winter. Now depth of snow is 29cm here in Tornio.

Haparanda Old Water Tower and Sunset

Days are already quite short here in North Europe. I took this photo two days ago from Finland and Sweden border towards Haparanda old water tower in Sweden. Time was 14:32 Finnish time or 13:32 Swedish time and like you see sun is already very low. Official sunset time was about 30min later.

Northern Lights in Tornio

Last night was possible to see northern lights (aurora borealis) here in Tornio. I took this shot from our balcony towards city hall, which is the highest building in the middle.
