Waxwing and Rowan Berries

In the last post I tested zoom in my new Canon PowerShot SX730 HS. This photo I took also using the same camera. Distance to bird was about three four meters.

So far the camera has worked well. There are still some new features for me in the camera like using mobile phone as a remote control to camera via bluetooth, which I haven't tested yet.

Canon PowerShot SX730 HS Superzoom - Quick Zoom Test

I have had in my mind already long time that I want some kind of superzoom pocket camera. I have Canon EOS 60D DSLR and Canon PowerShot G15 in use, but superzoom camera would combine long zoom and small size. One week ago Finnish Verkkokauppa.com had special offer of Canon SX730 HS Travel Kit, which included also case for the camera and very small Joby Gorillapod Original tripod. The price for the package was 249.90€, which was 120€ under normal price and I had to buy one.

SX730 HS has normal 20.3 megapixel 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor, but the big thing is 40x optical zoom which is equivalent to 24-960mm in 35mm terms.

Here is my first zoom test, where is easy to see the zoom range. First the wide view.

Here in this second photo I zoomed to the fisherman on the right.

Zoom works well and the quality of the photos are good especially for the size of the camera. First impression of the camera is great.

I will post more photos soon, what I have taken using this SX730 HS.

Midnight Sun (9PM to 7AM) Time Lapse in Tornio | No Sunset! | FINLAND

This time something different. Here is now real midnight sun ongoing and the sun is above the horizon 24/7. There is no sunset at all. Next sunset will be 28th of June 2017.

I shooted this midnight sun time lapse from 9PM to 7AM (10 hours) and like you see there are lot of light all night long.

Swan hiding

I took these photos, when swan came to eat on the crass and hay area. I tried that swan doesn't see me, but I got the feeling that swan tried to hide also, that I don't see it.

City hall silhouette after midnight

We have already midnight sun here in Tornio even the sun is not visible full 24 hours. Now sun is above the horizon about 23 hours. Only few more days and then it will be 24.

I took this photo few days ago at 1:35AM, when sun was behind the buildings. I also used settings in the camera, where the color saturation is stronger and photo is darker. So in real life the view is not so dark at all like in this photo.

VIDEO - Ice floes drifting in mighty Tornionjoki | FINLAND

Tornio, Finland. It's always big thing here in Tornio, when the ice floes start to move in Tornionjoki (Torne River). I posted twice (1 / 2 ) some photos the ice floes in the river. Now I created also video, where is possible to see the how fast the ice floes are moving and the real power of the river.

Now the river is finally totally free of ice. River starts to frozen again sometimes in October.

New Year's Eve Twice in Tornio Finland and Haparanda Sweden

Yesterday evening was New Year's Eve. Here on the Finland and Sweden border new year is every time twice. Even Tornio in Finland and Haparanda in Sweden are almost like one city, there is anyway border between and both countries Finland and Sweden have different time zone. This means also fireworks is twice.

This time the both cities celebrated the New Year's Eve together in the same place just on the border. First band played, then fireworks in Finland, band continued and one hour later fireworks in Sweden.
